Nestled in the Hallingdal valley of Norway, Hemsedal is one of Scandinavia’s most beloved mountain destinations. Known as the “Scandinavian Alps” for its dramatic peaks and steep terrain, Hemsedal draws skiers from across Europe who come for its reliable snow conditions, challenging runs, and authentic mountain atmosphere.
Hemsedal Ski Centre offers 53 slopes spread across two interconnected mountains — Hemsedal and Solheisen — with a combined 45 km of marked runs. With a vertical drop of 890 metres and a good mix of blue, red, and black slopes, Hemsedal caters to everyone from first-timers to seasoned freeriders. The resort's north-facing aspect means the snow stays dry and powdery well into the spring season.
Off the slopes, the village of Trøim sits at the base of the mountain and offers a lively après-ski scene with restaurants, bars, and shops. The Hemsedal ski bus connects the accommodation areas, making it easy to get around without a car.
Beyond skiing and snowboarding, Hemsedal offers dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country trails, and night skiing on select slopes. In summer, the mountains transform into a hiking and mountain biking paradise, with trails ranging from gentle valley walks to demanding ridge hikes.
Hemsedal is approximately 2.5 hours by car from Oslo, making it one of the most accessible major ski resorts in Norway. The nearest airport is Oslo Gardermoen (OSL), from where you can rent a car or take a dedicated ski bus service during the winter season.
Nordic Alps offers a handpicked selection of ski-in/ski-out apartments, cosy cabins, and well-appointed hotels in and around Hemsedal. Whether you're looking for a luxury lodge for a large group or a compact studio for a long weekend, we have accommodation to suit every budget and group size.
